Esteban Zupan

My art seeks to simultaneously unsettle and soothe, like beautiful flowers whose fading is part of their grace. Each canvas transforms grief into beauty and silence into revelation, inviting the viewer into an inner landscape where sorrow and grace intertwine, solitude becomes sacred, and the heart speaks softly, sheltered in shadow.

§ II — The artist

The Artist

I was born in 1993 in Arequipa, Peru, where I also grew up. I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture in Lima, followed by a Master’s degree in Integrated Building Systems at ETH Zurich.

I taught myself to paint using online videos and books. My style is rooted in years of studying the Old Masters — Velázquez, Rembrandt, Vermeer, John Singer Sargent, and other artists whose works continue to captivate me.

I build on their foundations while adding my own touch, blending classical realism with dark and gothic themes. This fusion allows me to honour the depth and discipline of traditional painting while exploring subjects that are mysterious, dramatic, and emotionally charged.
